Textured Socks
Once you've graduated from the stockinette and plain rib socks, you may be thinking about something a bit more fun ~ These textured socks are made up of rhythmic repeats of simple stitch patterns that are interesting to knit, but simple enough to memorise.
Fingering weight socks
DK weight socks
It's a great opportunity to use gradient yarns and hand dyed yarns.
As the textures and shadows can show off the variegation in these yarns in new and exciting ways!
Try something like the Rowan Sock with long gradient or Malabrigo Ultimate Sock, or for the DK patterns, try Yarnfloozy Staunch.
Light Colourwork Socks
A lot of people (me included) are a bit scared of knitting colourwork socks... and for good reason too! Socks need to be super stretchy to fit and hug your feet at the same time. It's not easy getting the tension right on a colourwork sock.
For those who would like to dip their toes (pun totally intended) in colourwork socks, I've found some light colourwork socks that only have a few rows of colourwork to ease you into it.

Solid Colours are a safe bet when it comes to colourwork. It's also a great idea to get 50g balls like the Rosarios 4 Meia Sock or Zealana Cozi so you're not gonna end up with a bunch of leftovers from 100g skeins (but if you do, we'll show you what you can do in the next section).
Scrappy Socks
If you've been knitting socks, you'll probably have plenty of scraps sitting around. Here are four sock patterns great for using those bits of yarn up!
Zauberball Socks
Have we told you about how much we love Zauberball? Think Spincycle... but socks! This yarn will keep you knitting! Cuz you're always wanting to see what colour it's going to fade into next.
Zauberball is a single spun gradient yarn, choose this one if you want a more subtle look. Zauberball Crazy is a plyed marled gradient yarn, choose this one if you're looking for a fun colourful option!
Halloween Socks
Halloween's just around the corner, knit your spooky socks now!
Simple Cable Socks
Do you ever want to knit something that looks impressive.... but that would just require too much effort... so you give up? How about patterns that look intricate but are a breeze to knit!
These cable socks and be easily knitted without cable needles. Plus! It's a good way to try out a stitch pattern on a small project.

Unlike the textured socks earlier, these cables will be the most defined when knitted with more of a solid colour yarn; like Zealana Cozi, Sox Easy Wash or Rosarios4 Meia.
Shorties
Finally, for a quick knit with minimal yarn, pick one of these shorties!
These shorties are great for when you've got a limited amount of yarn
(or a limited amount of time to knit your socks!)
