Cashmere: Nature's Finest Fibre ✨
Cashmere is for life
Our week just got better with a re-stock of Cardiff Cashmere.
Cashmere is a timeless, incredibly soft fibre that, with the right care, can last a lifetime.
We've just restocked our most popular colours, and ordered seven bright new colours of Cardiff Cashmere Classic 8ply to give you plenty of options to choose from.
Cashmere pieces just have that *something special* about them. They are beyond soft, sophisticated, and classic- cashmere fibre is widely sought-after for a reason!
If you're looking to create your own cashmere wardrobe pieces, we've got you covered with inspiring patterns ideas that range from sweet accessories (think mini scarves and mittens) to pullovers and cardigans that do this yarn justice.
We hope you enjoy reading a bit more about cashmere, and checking out our range of 100% Italian cashmere yarn.

The goat with the most
Cashmere has quite the journey before it gets to us. The highest quality cashmere is combed from the ultra-fine undercoat of goats in Central Asia, mostly in China, Mongolia and Afghanistan.
Insulating
Their soft coat is characterised by an air chamber inside each fibre which is a great insulator from the harsh climate (cashmere has 3x better insulating capacity than wool) and makes garments you can wear year-round.
Lightweight
The insulating properties not only keep you cool when it's hot and warm when it's cold, it also produces lighter garments with minimum bulkiness as you don't need much weight to insulate you.
Moisture-wicking
The air chamber inside each fibre captures moisture and releases it away from the skin which keeps you dry and fresh. Cashmere can absorb up to a third of its own dry weight in liquid.
Soft and hypo-allergenic
The most-valued quality of cashmere may be its incomparable softness. Its fine short fibres make it one of the softest fibres in the world that doesn't itch and is hypoallergenic.
The fineness of fibres is measured in microns (1,000 microns per millimetre). Cashmere fibres considered for processing do not exceed 19 microns while the average merino wool is about 21-22 microns.
Pilling
A by-product of having velvety short fibres is that friction can cause them to pill. As with most fibres, this is inevitable and happens less frequently after the first few washes and even less with higher quality cashmere. You can remove pilling with a comb like the Pony wool comb or Gleener.
Durability
Cashmere garments can last decades if they're cared for correctly. While hand-washing a garment may seem inconvenient for someone who doesn't knit, it wouldn't be much trouble for knitters used to hand-washing their knitted garments 😉
Have you knitted with cashmere before? Tell us how was your cashmere experience! Or if you've never tried it and are thinking about it, we'd love to see what you knit with it.
Happy Knitting 🤗
