NEW YARN Cardiff Cashmere
We've been getting so much interest regarding 100% cashmere yarn
and we love cashmere as well – how can you not! We've spent a long time looking for the perfect cashmere yarn... Well, the wait is over!
We are so happy to introduce:
If you've never heard of Cardiff Cashmere, the company was born in the 80's, to an Italian family who believed in the value and beauty of cashmere fibres. To this day, Cardiff is still 100% produced in Biella, Italy.
Cardiff considers sustainability has an integral part of its business, from ensuring sustainable and ethical farming of animals to adopting modern environmentally friendly processing approaches.
It's beyond soft!
We all know that cashmere is known for its softness, but exactly how soft is it?
The width of a fibre is measured in microns. Essentially, the smaller the micron, the finer the fibre, and the softer it is. The human hair is around 50 microns. A high-quality merino garment that's meant to be worn next to the skin (like an Icebreaker top) is between 17-19 microns. Cardiff cashmere fibre is never more than 15.5 microns!
It's super light!
Cashmere's not only super soft, it's also featherlight! The cashmere fibre comes from cashmere goats' fine undercoats, providing warmth and insulation from the biting winter winds. So even though the Cardiff Cashmeres come in 25g balls, they actually have similar yardage to other 50g ball wool yarns!

The 8ply Classic has the most extensive colour range.
I've personally knitted with this yarn before, and I am happy to report that it is not only unbelievably soft, but surprisingly pill-resistant! (I frogged the yarn a few times and it still looked new).
Projects like The Wrap Top or Bra were designed to be made with cashmere yarn, as they need to be non-scratchy against the skin.
The Home Camisole has a similar idea, but would be better suited for people who would like a bit more ease to their garments.
Just yesterday Petiteknit dropped her Elizabeth Blouse knitted in Cardiff Cashmere Classic! It's like she knew we'd start stocking Cardiff Cashmere and released the pattern in celebration.
I'm sure we've all heard of the Sophie Scarf by now. Cardiff Cashmere Classic was listed as one of the suggested yarns for this popular knit :)
Cardiff Small
Fingering 4ply
