Spinning Inspiration ✨

Between the Tour de Fleece and our introductory spinning classes, we've had drop spindles and fibre on our minds a lot these last few weeks!

Getting to spin your own yarn is a really fun way to create something that is uniquely your own, a truly one of a kind creation. Spinning your own yarn allows you to blend your own choice of fibres together, to play with colour, and to experiment with texture. With the right tools, you're really only limited by your imagination.

A fun place to start is with the Ashford Corriedale Sliver packs. This fibre is great for spinners of all skill levels and can be a nice way to practice blending different coloured fibres together to make a gradient yarn. Or you can grab different colours at random to create a beautiful art yarn. Or you could do long sections of one individual colour and create a yarn like our Zauberball Crazy or Spincycle yarn. Just check out the image below to get an idea of all the possibilities there are!

Different tools can be used to blend fibres together. Hand carders, drum carders, blending boards are all fibre preparation tools that can be used to create fibre that is ready to be spun. This article by Spinoff Magazine offers a great run down on what tools will best suit your needs to help you make the projects you want. As an Ashford dealer, we'd be happy to order any additional fibre preparation tools you made need.

While prepping and spinning the fibre can be so much fun, getting to knit something out of all that hard work is so incredibly rewarding. Check out these beautiful projects made by members on Ravelry with their own handspun yarn. From little mittens and mushrooms to beautiful shawls and blankets, there is just so much creativity to be inspired by. Enjoy!
