Woolfest Wrap-Up
It was a glorious mad-house of yarn, fibre, buttons, bags, patterns, spinning wheels, socks, sheepskins, looms, sheep shearing and more on Saturday, May 24 at Woolfest at the Kumēu Showgrounds.
When the doors opened at 10AM a massive queue stormed the barns (very politely and calmly) as booths run by indie dyers, local yarn stores, shepherds, woodworkers and fibre mill operators were perused by incredibly kitted out crafters.
The garments worn by Aotearoa's finest fibre artists were a vibrant tapestry of colour, texture, style, and skill levels. With a little coordination, a collective of Calypso cardigans and sweaters gathered at the Loopine booth in the afternoon for a group photo. It was incredible to see so many people in their beautiful hand knits.
Margaret May, Woolfest organiser extraordinaire, once again pulled off a spectacular day for us all to gather and learn, shop, and connect over our mutual passions for the fibre arts. Thank you Margaret! A very big thank you to all of Margaret's fellow organisers, and the volunteers who helped make it such a lovely day. A thank you to the food vendors who kept us all fed, the other vendors who kindly took our money as we enhanced our stashes and a very big thank you to all who attended. We couldn't ask for a lovelier community to be a part of.
