Soft Silk is a soft and rustic bourette silk, also known as raw silk. This beautiful yarn ensures a great result while offering incredible natural qualities: it is warm in winter and cooling on a hot summer day. Due to the high proportion of silk glue (whose smell dissipates quickly), bourette silk is said to have natural healing powers, offering anti-inflammatory effects that soothe the skin.

As a versatile heavy fingering weight yarn, it features a highly flexible gauge that works beautifully on any needle between a 3mm and 4mm. Our staff-favourite gauge is 22 sts per 10cm, treating it like a classic 5-ply yarn. However, it easily adapts to a gauge of 20 to 24 sts, depending on whether you want a firmer texture or a very drapey fabric. No matter the project, it is always lovely and soft.

Nature is important to, which is why Soft Silk is dyed with AZO-free and Oeko-Tex certified dyes, ensuring a dyeing process that is gentle on the environment. The yarn is proudly spun and dyed by a small mill in India.

Please note: There may be excess dye in some of the colours. We recommend rinsing the yarn in cold water before use, finishing with a splash of vinegar in the final rinse. Always wash your finished projects in cold water.
